Bajura Hailstorm Causes Severe Damage to Crops and Fruits in Khaptad Rural Municipality
Last Wednesday afternoon, an intense hailstorm struck the Bajura area, resulting in widespread devastation of food crops, vegetables, and fruits in Khaptad rural municipality. Bhimla Budha from Budhabada in rural municipality-7 ward 7 reported significant losses, including wheat, barley, vegetables, potatoes, onions, garlic, and various fruits.
The hailstorm primarily impacted farmers in Wards 6 and 7, leaving them particularly vulnerable. Farmer Birkh Oli expressed the opinion that farmers affected by the hail should be recognized and rewarded rather than solely relying on humanitarian assistance.
Unfortunately, affected farmers have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of efforts from the local administration and the Agricultural Knowledge Center Bajura to assess the extent of the damage. Gauri Oli, a farmer, highlighted the indifference of the rural municipality towards gathering information about the damage, despite it impacting 905 families.
Farmers are now apprehensive about receiving compensation as both the Municipality and the Agricultural Knowledge Center Bajura have shown minimal interest in assessing the extent of the damage. According to surveillance conducted by the ward office, the estimated value of the damage exceeds 20 million rupees.
