The President has received the Election Commission‘s 16th annual report. President Bidya Devi Bhandari received the report from Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya at a program at the Sheetal Niwas, the office of the president.

The President expressed his gratitude for the Commission’s smooth administration of the most recent municipal elections on May 13, 2022, as well as the elections for members of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly on November 20, 2022. The Head of State stated that “regular elections are the lifeblood of democracy,” adding that the EC has demonstrated the importance of holding elections on schedule.
The President asked the EC to ensure the provision allowing voters to participate in the voting toward the proportional representation electoral system at a location suitable to them while advising it to keep collecting voter information and updating voter lists.
Similarly to this, the President emphasized the importance of implementing voter education effectively and asked the EC to focus on providing complete security of polling places and creating an environment in which all voters could exercise their right to vote with confidence. The President requested that the EC start a unique awareness campaign that would hit all secondary schools in the nation.
Before the President, the Chief Election Commissioner gave a brief overview of the significant yearly accomplishments and actions of the EC. As he stated, the EC carried out its obligations, tasks, and responsibilities within the bounds of the Constitution and other pertinent legislation, and it has already given the Nepali government the draft of the integrated electoral law.
The event also included the presence of the election commissioners Ishwori Prasad Poudyal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Sagun Shumsher JB Rana, and EC Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi.
