Himalaya Shamsher Jabara, the first governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, has passed away.
Thapa died this morning at the age of 95 while being treated at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu. According to hospital sources, he died around 6:30 this morning.

He was appointed as the first governor of Nepal on the 10th of Baisakh, 2013. The exchange rate of 100 to 160 rupees to the Indian rupee (Bharu) fixed during his time is still maintained.
After retiring from the job, he opened the Gorkha Brewery Company and brought Tuborg and Kalsvarg Weir into Nepal. After selling the company, he established Himalayan Bank and Himalayan Distillery.
When Jabara was the governor, he opened a yen account in Nepal in Japan. As a result, currency exchange between Nepal and Japan was facilitated, and economic relations between the two countries also developed.
He also received the ‘Gold and Silver award of the highest rank ‘The Order of the Rising Sun’ from the Japanese government.
