In the 17th minute, Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool’s lead. He managed to score through Mohamed Salah’s pass. In the 22nd minute, Newcastle was down to 10 players.

After a foul on Mohamed Salah outside the penalty box, the referee sent goalkeeper Nick Pope off the field with a straight red card. However, after that, Liverpool could not take advantage of Newcastle’s 10 players.
With this win, Liverpool has climbed to eighth place with 35 points from 22 games. Defeated Newcastle is in fourth place with 41 points from 23 games.
In another match, despite taking an early lead, Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. City’s Bernardo Silva scored and Nottingham’s Chris Wood equalized.
City took the lead with Silva’s goal in the 41st minute of the match at The City Ground on Saturday night. He managed to score a pass from Jack Grellis. However, City could not maintain that lead in the second half.
Chris Wood scored a goal with 6 minutes remaining to tie the game at 1-1. With this draw, City lost the chance to climb to the top. Had they been able to defeat Nottingham, City would have equaled points with Arsenal and climbed to the top on goal difference.

With this tie, City has reached 52 points from 24 games. The top-placed Arsenal has 54 points, having played one game less. Nottingham is in 13th place with 25 points.
