The Maha Shivratri fair 2023 in Nepal, which will take place at Pashupatinath on February 6 Trayodashi, has been fully prepared.
For the comfort of pilgrims who travel to Pashupatinath during Mahashivratri, eight subcommittees have been constituted, according to the Pashupati Area Development Fund. For the planning of Shivratri, a core ceremony committee has been established under the direction of the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kiranti. No passes have been available for anybody else to reach the Pashupatinath region this year besides journalists and volunteers.

At least 2 million devotees are expected to see Pashupatinath directly during this year’s Shivratri, and plans have been prepared for darshan through five lines to handle devotee traffic.

For the sadhus who travel from various locations to attend the fair at Jagannathpuri’s Govardhan Math, food will be provided in the Hansmandap area during Mahashivratri, according to Narayan Subedi, Treasurer of the Pashupati Area Development Fund. According to him, facilities have been made for sanitation, restrooms, drinking water, and a place to put shoes and slippers in the Pashupati area.
In addition, plans are being made for security, advertising, darshan, nighttime plans, lodging, food, and entertainment. The subcommittee has reportedly begun its job to keep an eye on security plans, publicity arrangements, darshan arrangements, night arrangements, lodging, food, firewood provisions for Dhuni, religious program arrangements, and control of footwear.
Meanwhile, according to Ghanshyam Khatiwada, executive director of the development fund, the task of flower-decorating the temple’s main door would be finished one day before Shivratri. He claims that Dhuni would get firewood in Nirmal, Bhashmeshwar, Ram Mandir, Sri Gorakhnath (Mrigasthali), Annapurna, and other locations in the Pashupati area.
Similar preparations have been undertaken, said the organizers, for Naga Baba at Pashupatinath’s primary temple complex. During this year’s Shivratri, around 1,500 members of the Nepal Police and Armed Police will be on duty to handle the peace and security. The ancient temple grounds will be managed with assistance from the Nepali Army. On Mahashivratri, tens of thousands of pilgrims and visitors are anticipated from nearby nations, including India.
With the help of the Marwari community, several parts of Pashupatinath are now brightly decked with flowers and lights. On Thursday morning, a Prabhat Feri program was organized in the Pashupatinath region in honor of Mahashivratri.
