“Koshi Pradesh” is the name of Province 1.
Koshi Pradesh was the name given to Province 1 by the State Legislature on Wednesday night.
Previously, during the Provincial Assembly meeting on Wednesday, a suggestion for the name Province-1 was made.

The Province Assembly suggested the name “Koshi” for Province-1 in accordance with Rule 58 (b) of the Province Assembly Regulation, 2074 (first revision), which comes after Article 295 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Ram Bahadur Magar, a member of the province assembly and a member of the ruling CPN UML, made the motion to Speaker Baburam Gautam with the province name “Koshi” in it.
The majority of Assembly members adopted the plan that the Speaker re-presented for consideration.
Rajendra Kumar Rai, a member of the CPN (US) Provincial Assembly, proposed the name “Kirat-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha” for the province at the time, but the majority of the members rejected it.
Similar to this, the NC’s Bhupendra Rai, the UML’s Rewati Raman Bhandari, and the RPP’s Gopal Bishwokarma supported the recommended plan, while the CPN’s Indra Bahadur Angbo and the JSP’s Nirmala Limbu opposed it.

Recently, the debate over the idea of designating Province 1 as the “Koshi Province” came to an end.
Speaker Gautam allotted two hours for the proposal change. A second meeting of the Provincial Assembly will be held to discuss the idea.
