Nepal weather: According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a chance of normal to moderate rain starting tonight from West Nepal to Kathmandu and other regions of the nation.
The rain is expected to persist through Thursday. Snowfall in the alpine regions is also possible after Tuesday, according to Meteorologist Binod Pokharel.
Meanwhile, this winter has experienced the least amount of rain in the prior 30 years.
This year’s winter rainfall is the lowest since 1991. From 1991 to 2020, an average of 12.6 millimeters of rain fell from December 1 to January 18.
According to the Department, however, barely 0.1 mm of rain occurred during the same period this year.
The preceding winter brought an average of 27.1 millimeters of rain.
In Nepal, the winter season lasts from December 15 to February 15. According to climate researcher Dharmaraj Upreti, less rainfall in winter means more drought, with a direct impact on winter crops.
The drying up or depletion of water springs, increased air pollution, and increased danger of fire occurrences are additional possible consequences.
