Cement production has been stopped by the government-owned Hetauda Cement Industry. The production was stopped due to the lack of coal required for the operation of the industry.
The industry management says that tenders have been invited for coal supply. The industry has planned to import 10,000 metric tons of coal in the first and second phases.
The deputy general manager of the industry, Naveen Karna, claimed that the management of the coal needed for cement production has been started and the coal will be supplied within a week and the cement production will start. Coal will be imported from India, Indonesia and Bhutan, and Pakistan.
The industry, which was closed for a long time, was reopened only three months ago, but now it has been closed again.
Although there is a capacity to produce 750 tons of cement per day, the industry has not been able to produce cement due to old machinery problems and a lack of manpower.
The industry has been in losses for the past four years. The industry was established in 2033 with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
