Ram Sahaya Yadav, leader of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and vice-presidential candidate for the ruling coalition, has been chosen as the nation’s new vice president.

At the election held on Friday at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, Yadav received 30,328 votes.
Ashta Lakshmi Shakya, vice chairman of the CPN-UML and candidate for vice president, received 16,328 votes.

In a similar vein, Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party earned 2,537 votes overall.
JSP’s proxy candidate Pramila Kumari Yadav received one vote for the provincial legislature. Although publicly withdrawing her campaign, her name continued to appear on the list of candidates.
The election, which was held today from 10 am to 3 pm, involved 311 members of the federal parliament and 518 representatives from provincial assemblies.
