The US Geological Survey said the 7.8 magnitude earthquake happened at 01:17 GMT (4:17 local time) at a depth of 17.9km.

The report said that the earthquake was felt in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, and other cities, as well as in the surrounding area.

Several buildings have fallen down, and there may be a lot of people trapped inside.

BBC said that a city shopping mall had fallen down.

Seismologists in Turkey thought the quake was 7.4 magnitudes strong.

They said that just a few minutes later, a second quake hit the area.
